Sonora PVDF Hydrophones

Hydrophone

Sonora's proprietary line of highly stable bilaminar PVDF hydrophones provides the key component of any Acoustic Measurement System. The combination of excellent frequency response, noise immunity, and long-term stability makes them an essential tool for ultrasonic measurement work for manufacturing, product development, or research. Each hydrophone is pre-tested to insure proper performance, including extended water tank soaking. Hydrophones are supplied with individual sensitivity calibrations and directivity/effective aperture data as a function of frequency (essential for proper spatial averaging correction). All calibration data is traceable to a National Standards Laboratory and is available electronically for use with measurement software capable of automatic sensitivity lookup.

Model 804

  • 20MHz Frequency Response: The frequency response is smooth and flat up to 20MHz. Calibration data from 1-20MHz supplied.
  • Cable Options: 75cm with BNC termination is standard; our integrated wideband pre-amplifier is an available option.

Model 805

  • Wideband Frequency Response: The frequency response is smooth and flat up to 50MHz. Calibration data from 1-40MHz supplied.
  • Pre-Amplifier: Because of the low signal level from the 9mm thick element, the hydrophone requires the use of a wideband pre-amplifier.

Calibration Stability

The proprietary design and assembly methods used at Sonora insure a long lived hydrophone with excellent calibration stability. The graph to the right shows the calibration results taken in 1993, 2001, and 2004 for a hydrophone that was used on a daily basis for eleven years. The changes are generally within the calibration margin of error, showing essentially no evidence of any sensitivity drift.
